Bangladesh
Islami Chhatra Shibir (Islamic Students Camp) is the biggest and
most disciplined student organisation in Bangladesh. Shibir has
successfully devoted itself in building a well educated and honest
generation of people rich with Islamic and social values. The organisation
practices democracy, encourages its leaders and activists to be
honest, educated and religious citizens of the nation.
Shibir was established in February 6, 1977 in Dhaka with a mission
"To satisfy Allah through the rearrangement of the total life
of human being in the way given by Allah and shown by the prophet
(peace be upon him)".
Shibir is a well-disciplined organisation with clearly defined hierarchy.
When someone joins the organisation, he is considered as 'Karmi',
meaning worker. When a 'Karmi' meets a predefined standard of knowledge,
rituals, moral status and leadership quality, he is promoted to
a 'Shathi' meaning comrade. When a 'Shathi' is able to meet a predefined
higher standard of knowledge, rituals, moral status and leadership
quality, he is promoted to a 'Shadashawa' meaning member.
In widespread erosions of values in Bangladeshi society, especially
among the students, Shibir is considered one of the strongest fort
for preserving the family, social and religious values.
